Pop Quiz: What Book Have I Been Reading?

Chickadee has been assigned lines: I will not barge in when Mom is typing. x10

Chickadee: WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA

Mom: That noise is hassling my ears. Would you like to quiet down? or would you like to take it upstairs?

(She takes it upstairs and has a right good screaming fit. Comes back down and sits and glares at her lines. All 10 of them.)

Chickadee: Mom?

Mom: Do you have a question about your lines?

Chickadee: No, but I . . .

Mom: We'll talk about it when your lines are done. Please don't talk to me unless you have a question about your lines.

Chickadee: Mom, can I have lunch?

Mom: When your lines are done, we can talk about other things.

(2 minutes pass)

(I put on some Chopin -- which she usually loves.)

Chickadee: Mom? Can you turn the music off? It's bothering me.

Mom: When your lines are done, we can talk about other things. Please don't talk to me unless you have a question about your lines.

Chickadee: Mom? Can I have a snuggle?

Mom: When your lines are done, we can talk about other things. Please don't talk to me unless you have a question about your lines.

Chickadee: Mom? My toe hurts.

Mom: When your lines are done, we can talk about other things. Please don't talk to me unless you have a question about your lines.

Chickadee: Mom?

Mom: Honey, I keep asking you nicely to please don't talk to me unless you have some questions about your lines. I need to focus on my work, so now I need to ask you to please not talk to me at all.

Chickadee: WHAAAAAAAAAAaa. What if I have a question about my lines?

Mom: That will be a bummer.

Chickadee: WHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAA

Mom: That noise is hassling my ears. Would you like to quiet down? or would you like to take it upstairs.

(She takes it upstairs and has a right good screaming fit. Come back down and sits and glares at her lines.)

Good ol' Love and Logic. I am working ever so hard on employing some of those techniques. Lidia has been impossible lately! My only problem is, instead of making a choice, she just sits there as though I hadn't spoken-thus forcing me to make her choice for her. I'm still teetering on whether she should be considered big enough to move myself or not.

Crystal! Long time . . . You get an A on the quiz, btw.

"Oh, I notice that you'd like me to choose. Okay." And I take them by the hand and move them. The deal is (and they know this) that if they move themselves, they can choose when to get up/come out. If I move them, they have to wait for me. If they fight me on the move, they have to wait longer.

It's really hard. I was sobbing with frustration last week so I cloistered myself with all my parenting books and we started the next day with the New Deal. The kids hate it as they had a fun game going last week (let's make Mom cry) and the game is not working this week. I am impervious to torment this week.

I just realized that her lines should have been framed positively.
"I will show respect of other people's work-time by not talking to them until they are ready." Oh well. Next time.

Bummer gave it away. Bummer is my new favorite word.

Snuggling is usual a good choice but since you made other choices- snuggling is not one of your options right now. Hopefully, you will finish your lines so we can snuggle.
I like snuggling and feel sad that we can't do that.

How much do I LOVE Love & Logic? SOO much. Why? Because it is just what it says--both loving and logical.

Ha! I have the love and logic book too. The bummer is a dead give away. Don't like everything, but some of it is very useful for little kids.
