Simple Woman's Daybook

For Monday 22nd December 2008

Outside my window I see Black-Capped Chickadees (my own special bird) eating sunflower seeds that we threw across the snow. I see a white meadow and dark blue hills with white lace shawls across their shoulders.

I am thinking about how nice it is to be ready for Christmas several days ahead.

I am thankful that I have such a nice husband who works hard to support us and encourages and helps me with the kids.

From the kitchen I'll be bringing out cookies and a potroast later today.

I am wearing flannel pajema bottoms that my mom made for me, white silkie long-underwear top, green fleece jacket, fuzzy slippers.

I am hoping I can get sorted out this mountain of medical insurance paperwork that my husband just gave up on and that I foolishly said I would handle for him.

I am hearing my daughter singing as she tidies up her room and my son talking to himself as he prepares breakfast.

Around the house there are quite a few dust-bunnies, Christmas decorations, and drowsy heat-loving pets.

One of my favorite things is a hot bath. I love the 'aloneness' of it, but mostly I love the heat on my aching arthritic joints.

A few plans for the rest of the week include baking and cooking for the following events: Christmas eve morning party with cousins (holiday strata), Christmas eve dinner for our own little family (chippino), Christmas Day breakfast for our own little family (smoked salmon quiche, kringle, mimosas), Christmas dinner at my moms (twice-baked potatoes, rye bread).

Here is picture-thought I am sharing:

The Simple Woman's Daybook

Outside my window is a freshly mown lawn, an idle ladybug swing, an old dog dozing under the rhododendron and a young dog following suit.

I am thinking about summer goals and plans: swim, help Mom in her garden, keep up with own gardens, keep up with home-schoolings, visit cousins more, read more books, continue the great purging.

I am thankful for quiet mornings at home.

From the kitchen waft the the smells of BonAmi. Dandy has cleaned up the kitchen in preparation for a big cooking frenzy this afternoon.

I am wearing
clean jeans and a t-shirt and flip-flops.

I am creating
to-do lists that are longer than the day is.

I am going
to wash that gray almost out of my hair. I'm leaving my forelock gray as we are all going to have to get used to it pretty soon; I'm sick of dyeing it.

I am reading
home-schooling materials.

I am hoping
become a more patient and gentle Mom.

I am hearing
birdcalls..

Around the house
are many gardens full of weeds.

One of my favorite things good food.

A few plans for the rest of the week are yet to be determined.

The Simple Woman's Daybook

I found this over at The Simple Woman and I rather like it.

Outside my window is a yard that needs to be mown, two children playing on a ladybug swing, an old dog dozing under the rhododendron and a young dog chasing gnats.

I am thinking about course proposals for Fall semester for 9th and 10th grade home-schoolers. I've never taught this demographic before.

I am thankful for
health, and strength, and the meeting of daily needs.

From the kitchen
waft the smells of chicken soup and fresh bread.

I am wearing
garden overalls.

I am creating
a happy childhood for my kids, I hope.

I am going
to California in August; I hate heat.

I am reading
blogs. I don't have time to read books anymore. So sad.

I am hoping
to revise my manuscript this year.

I am hearing
my daughter's giggle.

Around the house
is a flock of dustbunnies.

One of my favorite things is a loafing in the hammock.

A few plans for the rest of the week include making some concrete pavers and working in my Mom's garden with her.
