rice & beans, here we come

Someone please tell me this is a bad dream: that the whole week is a bad dream. I just opened an innocuous-looking mailer from the Tax Assessor's office -- it wasn't even in an envelope -- just a fold-over-and -tape mailer.

It informs me that our property's assessed value has increased by 70%. If it used to be worth $100, it is now worth $170. Yikes. The property taxes will go up proportionally, but I doubt if either of us will get raises that cover this. Egads.
