Split Pea Soup

Combine in your large crockpot:
  • 4 cups rinsed split peas
  • 1 whole onion, peeled and nasty bit removed
  • 4 large carrots
  • 4 stalks of celery
  • a lump of bacon ends, a little smaller than a fist.
  • water to cover + 1 inch.
Cook overnight.  In the morning blend to desired texture.  Add salt and pepper.  Serve with fresh bread, cheese slices, and pickles.

Boo. Now I'm craving split pea soup with no access to dried peas. ((Sigh)) It's the perfect weather for it, too.
